IRD & COMPLIANCE
We deal with IRD so you don't have to.
Behind on your returns, confused by an IRD letter, or just want someone else handling it all? We step in, talk to IRD on your behalf, and get things sorted.
YOU’RE NOT ALONE IN THIS
More than half a million New Zealanders are behind on their tax right now.
If you've been putting off dealing with IRD, you're in good company. Over 527,000 people in New Zealand currently have overdue tax debt. It builds up quietly: a missed return, a letter you meant to open, penalties ticking over in the background. The longer it sits, the harder it feels to start.
That's where we come in. As a registered tax agent, we have direct access to your IRD accounts, a dedicated IRD phone line, and the ability to receive your IRD correspondence on your behalf. We handle everything from annual returns and GST to penalty remission applications, instalment arrangements, voluntary disclosures, and audit support. We've helped clients with one overdue return and clients with ten. The process is the same: we take stock of where things are, talk to IRD, and work through it step by step.
Filing and paying are two separate obligations. Many people avoid filing because they can't pay, but filing late is actually worse. You can file a return on time even if you can't pay the full amount. Late filing adds penalties on top of the debt. If you're in this position, talk to us before the next deadline passes.
WHEN TO GET IN TOUCH
If any of this sounds familiar, we can help.
These are the situations that bring most people through our door. Some are urgent, some have been building for years. Either way, there's a clear path forward.
Years of unfiled returns
You've fallen behind, IRD has issued default assessments, and penalties are adding up. We file chronologically, replace the estimates, and apply for penalty remission.
IRD audit or investigation
Construction, hospitality, trades, and property are all heavily targeted. We handle the audit process end to end and negotiate with IRD on your behalf.
Your previous accountant has retired
Losing your tax agent link means losing your extended deadlines, your mail redirection, and your IRD buffer. We pick up where they left off and re-establish the agency link.
An IRD letter you don't understand
Penalty notices, default assessments, audit notifications, or Baycorp contact on IRD's behalf. We read it, explain it, and respond on your behalf.
A tax bill you weren't expecting
Terminal tax, a first provisional tax assessment, or a reassessment from IRD. We check the figures, set up a payment plan if needed, and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Moved to or from New Zealand
Residency tests, transitional tax residency, foreign income, double tax agreements. We work out what you owe, where, and make sure you're not paying tax twice.
WHY TAX LINK
What having a tax agent actually means for you.
Extension of Time
Your income tax filing deadline moves from 7 July to 31 March the following year. Terminal tax shifts from 7 February to 7 April. More time means better planning and fewer surprises.
Dedicated IRD access
We use the tax agents' phone line and myIR intermediary tools to communicate directly with IRD. When something needs resolving, we get through faster and know how to get results.
Your IRD correspondence, handled
We receive your IRD correspondence and respond on your behalf. No more letters piling up, no more calls to navigate. We handle it.
Penalties are not tax deductible. Our fees are.
The cost of a tax agent is a legitimate business expense. The penalties you'd pay without one are not. The maths tends to speak for itself.
